NY Times: Fred Thompson Makes the Rounds

Although he has not officially declared his presidential intentions, Fred D. Thompson, former senator of Tennessee, kicks off what looks a lot like a campaign in Nashville today, with stops this week in South Carolina and New Hampshire.

In those critical early primary states, Mr. Thompson will be meeting with Republican party officials and supporters, and raising money, mostly behind closed doors. While he has yet to announce his bid for the Republican nomination formally – and is expected to do so soon _ he’s already set up a committee for donors, called the First Founders.
